Tooth Extraction

Sometimes a tooth is too damaged or infected to save — we'll always try other options first, but extraction is sometimes the right call.

When it's needed

Severe decay, advanced gum disease, a tooth that's fractured below the gumline, or crowding before orthodontic treatment are the most common reasons.

Aftercare

  • Bite on gauze for 30–45 minutes to help a clot form
  • Avoid rinsing, spitting or using a straw for 24 hours
  • Stick to soft food and avoid the extraction site for a few days
Will it hurt?

The extraction itself is done under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn't feel pain — just pressure. We'll go through pain relief for afterward.

Do I need to replace the tooth?

Not always necessary, but gaps can shift your bite over time — we'll talk through whether an implant or bridge makes sense for you.
